With fishing fever rising again we made our second trip to the West Coast for the year, setting out at dawn on Saturday a fortnight ago and arriving at Venus Bay eight or so hours later. Winter is King George whiting time and we caught many dozens of these in the bay, along with countless tommy ruff, mullet and Australian salmon at nearby Mt Camel surf beach. And a lot of squid fell victim to our jags from the town jetty. We’d brought a sack of potatoes with us and so whiting and freshly cooked chips with a chunk of lemon was lunch, and dinner, on many days. The West Coast is a great fishing location with a myriad of fishing possibilities – ocean, bay, beach, rock, cliff.
