We checked out of the Apache with the intention of visiting the Arches National Park for a couple of hours, then heading for Salt Lake City. But Arches was so different and interesting in its own way that we spent the whole day there. This Park’s unique geology has led to the formation of many, you guessed it, rock arches. Each is different, and many are elegant. Delicate Arch is beautiful and appears on almost every promotional document for the Park.After picnic lunch at Devil's Garden, we hiked to Delicate Arch, arriving about an hour before sunset, the best time to photograph it. A crowd had gathered on the rim of the amphitheatre overlooking the Arch to see it light up as the sun touched the horizon, and cameras clicked from all directions. It was a long walk back to the trail-head in the moonlight and it was after 7.30pm when we left the Park. Being too late to travel on, we returned to Moab and checked back into the Apache.
