Granada, Spain

Granada has the Alhambra.  And if it had nothing else it would still be very satisfied with itself, for Alhambra surely has one of the most beautiful building interiors in the world.

For eight centuries in the time of the Moorish ascendancy, Granada was a Muslim capital and Alhambra dates from those times.  The 15th century Nasrid Palace is the centrepiece, featuring exquisite patios and intricately stuccoed interiors.  We spent an afternoon inspecting the structures and gardens that comprise Alhambra before wandering down the steep track leading back into the modern city centre, taking time out on the way to check out a few streets of the old Moorish quarter perched just above Plaza del Carmen where we were staying.
