Yangshuo, Guangxi Province, China

It was hard to drag ourselves away from fabulous Ping An, but funky Yangshuo beckoned and so we returned in the minibus briefly to Guilin and then on to Yangshuo. On the way our excellent driver treated us to a Guilin noodle lunch at his favourite roadside food stall, and our whole Gang of 8 unanimously voted this one of the most delicious lunches we had enjoyed, and certainly the best noodles.

We arrived in Yangshuo late in the afternoon and booked into the Tangrenjie Hotel, a 15 minute walk from West Street crowded with backpackers and other tourists from all over the world. West Street is certainly not representative of China, but is a great place to wander and have a brief change of food and setting. Yangshuo is surrounded by limestone Karsts similar to those around Guilin and the River Li flows through the town. It's a very atmospheric place, more beautiful we think than Guilin.
