We were joined by two members of our travelling party, Brad and Miriam, who had arrived the day before from Macau. In the evening we flew together to Shanghai to join the remainder of the group, Susan, Jon, Dylan and Jane. Brad was fired up to learn Mandarin, and starting from scratch, within a few days he was able to string words together and make himself understood to the locals, several times getting applause for his efforts to converse in Mandarin. In Shanghai we all booked into the New Harbour Serviced Apartments just a few blocks from the Bund and Nanjing Mall, and with great night views over the city.
